Our History

I had the honor of being in the 2023 Cohort of the CA Partnership for the Future of Learning Arts & Culture. Here is one of two works I created, “Our History Belongs in the Classroom”.

This piece is inspired by my reflections of how transformational Ethnic Studies was for me. I dream that future generations can access this knowledge much earlier in life. I hope that our youth understand that they come from a legacy of brilliance, resistance, innovation & artistry. This felt especially important to create at a time when there is an onslaught of State level re-writing of history.

This project launched in the Fall & my attention has been on Palestine, so I’m sharing late. I can’t help but think of how the history of this genocide will be recorded. May all of us do our part in shaping the future we wish to see & rejecting the U.S. standard of always twisting the reality of our role in genocide & colonization.
